The Future of Manufacturing in Canada

 The Survival of Manufacturing in Canada: Last fall before our economic slowdown became a recession, many manufacturers / exporters in Canada had already been under the strain of the U.S. Canadian dollar parity and a slowing U.S. economy.  Due to all this uncertainty the President of the CME (Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters) spoke directly about this challenge. 

This speech was incredibly upbeat and positive but it did include a warning for Canadian Manufacturers.  He stated that “clearly it cannot be business as usual for anyone in manufacturing today.  If companies are doing the same thing today that they were doing five years ago, I know that they’re in trouble.  If manufacturers intend to do the same thing they are doing today in five years’ time, I guarantee they’ll be out of business.”  These are stern words but it is a realization that everyone in the manufacturing sector must realize in order to survive.

 All around the globe, companies are modernizing their operations in order to continue to be competitive.  In China, the modernization of manufacturing has become a priority due to competition in their own country and from surrounding nations.  It’s  interesting to see a completely modernized Chinese facility using the most expensive German machinery producing machines to sell to the North American market.
